The Simple Reason For Democrats’ Hypocrisy on Biden Allegations

Former Obama State Department Spokeswoman Jen Psaki tweeted Friday, “stop just stop anyone who is buying into GOP point that there is a double standard with Dr. Ford. Kavanaugh hid behind GOP trying to silence her, [Joe Biden] just did an interview and has ordered all records released.” Liberal commentator Kirsten Powers had similar thoughts, “As I point out in my column today, there is no ‘double standard’ in the way Kavanaugh was treated vs. Biden. A few Dems called for immediate withdrawal of nomination, but the prevailing view was that the accusations should be heard and investigated. Same should be done w[ith Tara] Reade.”

But, of course there was a double standard. Brett Kavanaugh’s existence was proof he was guilty. Any tale, no matter now preposterous and thinly sourced was treated as true. Anybody who heard a gossip rumor at one point in time was reported to have corroborated the allegations. Meanwhile, Reade’s allegations are much more credible than Christine Blasey Ford’s, the latter’s friends could not even verify her claims.

And despite what Psaki says, there was no cover-up. The hearings were extended, broadcast on national TV, and protesters crowded the Capitol. Friday was the first time Biden was asked about in an interview and while the lack of protests can be in part ascribed to the COVID lockdowns, nobody is expecting Democrats to be confronted with #MeToo protesters the way Republican Senators were.

As for specific examples, Hawaii Senator Mazie Hirono told men to “just shut up and step up. Do the right thing for a change” and “I believe her.” Hirono has not said anything about the Biden allegations.

California Senator Kamala Harris, who rode her Judiciary Committe performance to a presidential bid, said:

As a former prosecutor, I have led investigations and I have tried these cases in a courtroom. I have spent countless hours with assault survivors. And when I look at what has occurred over these few days, we have fallen short in fulfilling our constitutional duty to fully evaluate Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination. This process has been a disservice to Dr. Ford. This process was a disservice to survivors everywhere. And this process has been a disservice to the American people.”

Harris has been absent on Reade.

Fellow Judiciary member turned failed presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand insisted Kavanaugh’s nomination be withdrawn, but when it comes to Biden, “ I stand by Vice President Biden,” she said “He’s devoted his life to supporting women, and he has vehemently denied this allegation.”

Vice presidential wannabe Stacey Abrams said:

A Supreme Court hearing is a job interview for one of the most critical roles in our democracy; if there is even a hint of impropriety — let alone the credible allegations bravely brought forward by Dr. Ford — we should pause and thoroughly investigate them, rather than rush forward.

Abrams actually had a response to Reade, but absurdly claimed,

The allegations have been heard and looked into, and for too many women, often, that is not the case. The New York Times conducted a thorough investigation, and nothing in the Times review or any other later reports suggests anything other than what I already know about Joe Biden: That he will make women proud as the next President of the United States.

Gillibrand and Abrams comments are the most telling. Again, Gillibrand said, “He’s devoted his life to supporting women, and he has vehemently denied this allegation” and Abrams similarly declared, “he will make women proud as the next President of the United States.”

In other words, Biden has the right politics.

Nina Burleigh said the quiet part out loud in 1998 talking about Bill Clinton’s sexual indiscretions, “I would be happy to give him a blowjob just to thank him for keeping abortion legal. I think American women should be lining up with their Presidential kneepads on to show their gratitude for keeping the theocracy off our backs.”

There you have it. It’s not about Trump or Kavanaugh or Biden or Clinton. It’s about abortion. There was a non-zero chance that Brett Kavanaugh could one day cast the fifth vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, so he was automatically guilty.

Former Minnesota Senator Al Franken was expendable. He was one out of a hundred and the balance of power in the Senate did not depend on his seat. Plus, it was obvious a Democrat was going to replace him.

Biden’s innocent because he has the right politics, but Kavanaugh was guilty, or at least, suspect because of his. His volunteering and upstanding character was just a facade. According to Molly Ball at Time, “Ford’s charge shattered Kavanaugh’s carefully crafted tableau, calling into doubt the image he projected. The row of young girls, legs bare in their private-school skirts, looked different now.”

What?

Democrats have to defend Biden because he is one of two. Either he will be president in 2021 or Trump will be. If Trump is that means more of a threat to Roe. If Biden wins, no judge or justice he appoints will vote to overturn Roe.

Sound far-fetched? Every time a Republican judicial nominee is asked a Democrat their view on the importance of precedence, they aren’t asking if they will agree to uphold Citizens United v. FEC or D.C. v. Heller.

Democrats should just be honest. They did not want Brett Kavanaugh on the Court and they want Joe Biden to be president, or rather they want Donald Trump to not be president. At least some of them have unwittingly admitted that.
